Barton Playgroup is a small, friendly Ofsted registered preschool and playgroup in the heart of Barton, Cambridge.  We are considered one of the best in South Cambridge and were awarded ‘Good’ at our last Ofsted visit in July 2022. We became a Charitable Incorporated Organisation (CIO) in August 2025, requiring us to re-register with Ofsted. Nonetheless, everything families value about our playgroup remains exactly the same, operating with the same ethos and commitment to our children.

We are open Monday – Friday between 9am – 12.00pm during term time, offering drop off from 8:50am. We also run an optional Lunch Club daily from 12.00pm – 1.00pm.

The Playgroup takes children from two years to five years, with a maximum number of 12 children per day.

We are situated in the grounds of Barton Primary School and have a great indoor and outdoor setting with a wealth of toys, soft play, and equipment for the children to enjoy.

“Staff support children’s communication well. They talk to children constantly throughout the day. Staff listen attentively, ask questions and introduce new vocabulary, such as ‘ripe’ as children eat their fruit at snack time. As a result, children become very confident communicators”.
